Artist and Ultrarunner

Elaine is a multimedia artist working with drawn, painted, collaged and digitally processed work. She uses these media to explore colour, texture and line. She has also gone through an ultra journey with her art, experimenting with different techniques and styles, with her most recent works focusing on acrylic paintings of the ultra landscapes.

She is based in Durham, North East England but fell in love with The Lake District after spending most of her childhood holidays there, walking with her family. Her experience of, and passion for, ultra running on the British fells and mountains has heavily influenced her work. She has achieved podium places in many ultra running mountain and trail races over the past 5 years, including The Spine (268miles) and The Dragon's Back (236miles). The wild landscapes and nature witnessed whilst competing in some of the world's most gruelling ultramarathons have inspired many of her pieces and the beauty of these landscapes is filled with the emotion of the artist battling the elements in remote, isolated and often dangerous terrain and conditions.

Elaine has a BA in Fine Art with First Class Honours from Sunderland University. She has an amazingly supportive cheerleading husband and three children who can often be found with her on the fells or anxiously dot watching the race trackers .
